Goals and results

Our philosophy is that every Jewish child has the right to a Jewish education. To achieve this goal, we have opened a Hebrew school in New York City to provide this opportunity to the children of our community. The New York Hebrew School offers a warm and vibrant Jewish atmosphere where children can gain a unique and exciting awareness of their Jewish identity.

At New York Hebrew, we work hard to ensure that our students…

  • Achieve a strong sense of love for Judaism and pride in being Jewish.
  • Discover and study the Torah (Bible), the incredible history of the Jewish people, and see its relevance in our time.
  • Gain an understanding of the practices and traditions of Judaism.
  • Learn about the morals, values and ethical behavior prescribed by the Torah.
  • Gain practical experience and appreciation of all Jewish holidays.
  • Master the skills of reading and writing in Hebrew.
  • Understand basic Hebrew words.
  • Learn basic prayers so that students feel comfortable attending services.
  • Identify with the land of Israel and its people.
  • Allow students to express their thoughts and questions about G-d, Torah, and religion.

Indeed, a child who is educated and exposed to the beautiful teachings, traditions, and historical lessons of Judaism is a child who is better equipped to face the daunting moral challenges of modern society.

The main approach of our school is to ensure that children enjoy their time and that they have positive feelings and pleasant memories of their Jewish learning. Therefore, our curriculum is carefully combined with songs, games, encouragement, arts and crafts, theater performances, field trips, family celebrations, and other exciting co-curricular activities.
